By fmlemwa The Somali embassy in the United States has said that the U.S immigration agents is planning to deport around 4,000 Somali nationals living in the United Stated, VOA reports.
We learned through immigration sources that the total number of the Somalis that are in the books of [U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement] to be removed are close to 4,000,” Ahmed Isse Awad Somali ambassador in the U.S told VOA’s Somali service Saturday. “Most of them are not in detention centers
Ambassador Ahmed Isse Awad said that the embassy was waiting for more information from U.S. authorities on the identity of the deportees and when they would depart.
The ambassador said that currently less than 300 Somalis are scheduled to be moved out in the next couple of months.
At least 170 Somali immigrants who got into trouble with the law in the U.S or has their asylum applications rejected have been deported to the capital of Somali, Mogadishu since the Somalia embassy opened in Washington in November 2015.
