Iraqi Forces Recapture ISIS-Held Mosul Airport Under Fire: State TV

Iraq’s government said it had recaptured Mosul’s airport under heavy fire Thursday, a key victory in the bid to dislodge the militants from their final stronghold in Iraq.

The country’s federal police pushed into the airport’s perimeter and seized the runway, as well as an ISIS-held military camp to the west, according to the Iraqi military.

Capturing Mosul’s airport and the surrounding area would be a major win for the government of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi. Not only would it help the regime regain control of roads leading to the west of the city, it would rob the militants of an important car-bomb manufacturing base.
