Samuelsson (pic) was born in Ethiopia and after his mother died was adopted, together with his brother, by a Swedish couple and lived in Sweden. His passion for cooking was ignited by his Swedish grandmother and he went on to study at a Swedish culinary institute. The stars were definitely aligned for him, as he became the executive chef of Aquavit, New York, after apprenticing there for only three years. Now, he is a world renowned chef, has authored two cookbooks and is the owner of five restaurants. He was also a guest chef at the first state dinner of Barack Obama’s presidency.
